Chapter 16

This is the fifteenth chapter of the game Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective.

Introduction[]

Ten years ago, a man named "Sissel"... took a little girl named Lynne hostage... and then was killed by a meteorite fragment.

Tonight, a man named "Sissel"... met a detective named Lynne at a junkyard at the edge of town... and then was killed by a bullet. But the scene I find waiting for me on the other end of the phone line... feels like the final nail in the coffin of my lost memory.

I see... "myself".

Plot[]

After leaving the Justice Minister’s office, Sissel sees a doppelgänger of himself standing over a dead Cabanela, holding a gun. “Sissel” then gets on the telephone to call Commander Sith, one of the blue people. They speak of a deal, then end the call.

After a short conversation between Commander Sith and his assistant, the camera pans out to reveal they are in a submarine, which then propels away. Back at the superintendent's office, the doppelganger mockingly says his goodbyes to the dead inspector, and leaves.

Sissel possesses Cabanela to go 4 minutes before his death, but leaves him unconscious. The scene starts with the call Cabanela gave back at the Justice Ministers office. The inspector writhes in pain, while “Sissel'' mocks him, asking what it's like to feel pain. He states he's taking “revenge on the people who stole his life away” 10 years ago. Cabanela then refutes this by saying a meteorite took his life. “Sissel” angrily slams a hot stove with his fist, without a flinch. He yells: “I was murdered! By ALL OF YOU!”. He blames a very young Lynne -who he kidnapped and used as hostage when backed into a corner - for his murder and bashes Cabanela about his perfect record.

Cabanela (stylishly) pulls out a handgun and shoots “Sissel”, but “Sissel” stands back up, unharmed. “Sissel” steals the handgun from Cabanela and shoots him point-blank, stating he’s wiping out people who knew about Temsik, ending the 4 minutes scene.

Seeing this, Sissel is very surprised. Cabanela now wakes up. While trying to save Cabanela, Sissel goes into the room below, finding it destroyed. The pigeon man is lying dead, under the rubble. After being possessed, he quickly becomes conscious and says the room blew up.

Sissel goes back in time again, to save the pigeon man. In this scene, “Sissel” is laying on a table, while the pigeon man waves over him with some sort of device. “Sissel” then gets up from the table, explaining that he died 10 years ago, his body is simply a shell, and he controlled everyone- including Lynne. He says he's leaving the country soon, but has to take out everyone that knows of his powers. He then causes the contraption in the room to start: it lights a pack of dynamite using Cupid’s arrow, blowing up the room and killing the pigeon man. Cabanela is alive but has multiple broken bones, the 4 minutes scene ends.

Cabanela reveals the medical examiner from the beginning was an impostor. He bought the body from the fake doctor in order to bring it to the super’s office and find the source of its powers.

While trying to save the pigeon man, Sissel spots Missile possessing a leaf floating through a sewer. The two of them save the pigeon man by making him fall through the floor before the explosion. The pigeon takes them to the room above to save the inspector’s life, by swapping the bullet from the handgun with a soft knit hat.

The pigeon man meets up with Cabanela. The pigeon man tells Sissel he was a medical examiner for the police and he worked on “Sissel’s” body 10 years ago. The body didn’t have a scratch on it, even though it was hit by a meteorite fragment. The pigeon man then says that he couldn’t perform the autopsy, due to any cuts instantly healing. He couldn’t file an autopsy report due to the body vanishing, he believes the body just got up and left on its own.

The body gives off radiation caused by the Temsik meteorite fragment. Pigeon man realized this when he went to the meteor crater and found the same radiation pattern as the corpse. He also says he quit his job as a medical examiner so he could further research the radiation. The pigeon man finds the connection between the manipulator case and this odd corpse from none other than Cabanela. They both come to the conclusion that the spirit was the one that manipulated the contraption Kamila made for her mother.

Sissel speaks with Cabanela, and the inspector reveals that a perfect record allowed him to become head of the Special Investigations Unit and direct all investigation to the manipulator case. This is why he cared about his record so much. He also says that the manipulator’s existence was found via overseas communication.

Cabanela found out “Sissel” is leaving the country by a submarine run by the blue people that he has a deal with. In a past case, Cabanela interrogated “Sissel”, admittedly making 2 big mistakes. The first was pushing him too hard, making him lose all hope.

The second was leaving his handgun on the table, which “Sissel” used to escape.

Turns out, the contraption in the pigeon man’s office was used to help Jowd’s case. The contraption was not able to reproduce the result they wanted without being changed, proving Kamila was manipulated.

Suddenly, Lynne walks in, and they explain to her what happened. Then, Jowd walks in with a big smile on his face. Lynne states the execution order was called off, and Jowd is free to go until morning. The pigeon man hands Jowd his old detective coat. Jowd thanks Cabanela for the “present” he gave him back at the prison, before running off. Lynne runs off as well, telling Sissel to wait a while.

Trivia[]

While in the first part of the 4MBD, you can get spotted by "Sissel". If this happens, he will turn to the screen, and say, "So you're here, are you? I noticed you. You think you can stop me, do you? I don't know why you're wearing my face...but you might as well give up now. I control everything!" Cabanela then pulls out his gun, then "Sissel" says, "Everything! Including the life of this police inspector in white." He then goes on to shoot the inspector.
